K-9 Training Camp

Patty's training method is used not by implimenting pain, inticing with food, no shocks, no clickers, no fancy equipment are used at K-9 Training Camp; but rather the utilization of your dogs own natural instincts.  Many trainers boast about using the natural approach to dog training, but few trainers truly understand what that really means. Using your dogs own natural instincts and the power of interaction, an understanding of canine behavior and clear communication - all used in such a way that your dog can easily understand.

There are many methods of training available to you today.  You should find a trainer that you feel comfortable with and that customizes their training program to fit you and your dogs needs.  Use your own judgement in what method you feel comfortable with.  A trainer that is educated in all methods speaks volumes about their background and experience with animals.  Some trainers may believe that it is not relevant to have spent a lifetime around dogs or that in their opinion you may need references from other trainers.  The only references you should need is client based.  When training dogs at K-9 Training Camp we believe that dogs, being social creatures, need to know when they are wrong and when they are right. Many trainers refuse to give anything but positive responses; however, there is nothing in a dog’s world that supports that lopsided approach. With a clear understanding of what is right and what is wrong, your dog can make a choice.

At K-9 Training Camp we encourage and pride ourselves in positive training; however, we recognize that “time-outs,” the stopping of too rough play, or even the withdrawal of our attention from a dog are all considered a form of punishment. We believe that in order to be successful trainers we must take responsibility for deciding how and when to appropriately employ consequences for unwanted behavior. All of these things we learned from the very best, we learned all this from our dogs'.

In-Kennel Training at K-9 Training Camp consists of 2 or more weeks of on-leash basic obedience and behavior problem training. When your dog is returned at the completion of a selected training program, the trainer will cover all the methods used during training. The trainer will work with the owner in the appropriate handling skills, so the owner can continue the positive training once the trainer is no long present. If you are planning a vacation or plan on being away, K-9 Training Camp can lodge and train your dog at the same time.
